Truk Blue Lagoon Resort January 2024

Blue Lagoon Resort Truk

January 15 to 28, 2024 13 nights, 11 days diving. $2995.00 plus airfare and meals.

Set on the southern tip of Weno Island and with stunning views over the Truk Lagoon, the Blue Lagoon Resort offers comfortable accommodation for divers wanting to explore the wrecks and reefs of these pristine waters. The Resort is situated amidst 14 acres of tropical gardens on the edge of a palm fringed beach, and although not considered a luxury resort, it has some of the region’s best amenities for divers and their non-diving partners.

Take in the breathtaking views of the world’s largest lagoon from your private balcony and swim in its translucent waters, then head underwater to experience the vibrant wrecks and impressive marine life. Whether you are a novice or experienced diver, the Blue Lagoon Resort caters to all levels, with Chuuk’s largest land-based dive operation on site.

Aside from the diving, the grounds of the Blue Lagoon Resort were used by the Imperial Japanese army during World War II. The region also lay at the center of “Operation Hailstone” when the US Navy did an intense air and surface attack on the Truk Lagoon in February 1944. There are wartime relics still scattered around the grounds of the resort and across the island which will have history buffs enthralled.

The Blue Lagoon Resort offers 54 spacious, air-conditioned rooms within its two-story structure, all of which boast views of the Truk Lagoon from their balconies. They are surrounded by palm shaded gardens and are situated just a few steps from the sandy beach and its inviting turquoise waters. All rooms offer private en-suite bathrooms with a shower and bath, as well as a telephone and TV.

You can select from single or double standard rooms, as well as more spacious superior rooms. There is also a deluxe suite for those wanting even more space during their stay.

Despite the remote location, you can stay connected at the Blue Lagoon Resort with WIFI available in the restaurant and lobby, as well as a computer center located next to the reception area. Mobile phone reception is available and prepaid local SIM cards can be purchased at the resort.

The Blue Lagoon Resort has an excellent on-site restaurant which offers cooked-to-order meals, as well as a coffee shop where you can relax for afternoon tea. The restaurant specializes in locally-caught seafood, with a particular emphasis on Pacific and Asian-inspired dishes.

At the end of the day you can head down to the Blue Lagoon Resort’s Sunset Bar to sip on a cocktail or a refreshing beer while you watch the last rays of sun sink behind the horizon of the Truk Lagoon.

The Blue Lagoon Resort has its own onsite dive operator, the Blue Lagoon Dive Center, which is Chuuk’s largest diving operation. They offer courses and fun dives throughout the day, as well as night dives on request, and can cater to recreational or technical divers with Nitrox, mixed gases and rebreather support.

The Blue Lagoon Dive Center has a fleet of fast dive boats, allowing them to access different dive sites with multiple groups of divers. Their local divemasters and instructors know the wrecks and reefs of the Truk Lagoon intimately and are experienced in underwater photography, technical diving and closed circuit rebreather diving.

They offer small group dive trips which are personalized to individual experience levels and interests, and they don’t work on a strict daily schedule. This allows dive trips to be tailored your requests, with surface interval excursions also possible.

The fringing reefs and islands which encircle the Truk Lagoon have created a natural barrier which protects the area from strong currents or large waves. It is renowned as one of the world’s best wreck diving destinations and there are 100+ WWII ships, planes and submarines found in its waters. Both hard and soft corals have grown across the wrecks, and spectacular coral gardens formed adjacent which provide a home for an impressive diversity of tropical fish, sharks and rays. Many of the wreck dives are located just a short boat ride from the Blue Lagoon Resort, although they are happy to arrange dive trips further afield.

The waters of the Truk Lagoon are enticingly warm, with temperatures ranging between 82 and 84° F (26 to 28°C) and most of the dive sites are within recreational dive limits (50-120 feet/15-40 meters).

The Blue Lagoon Resort offers dive packages which include all accommodation, two daily dives, tanks, weights, boat transfers, dive guide and return airport transfers. Additional dives as well as night dives can be added. Dive permits are required to dive in the Truk Lagoon (at an additional cost) and the Blue Lagoon Dive Center offers a full range of dive equipment for rent.

Other Activities

Aside from scuba diving, there is a wealth of other activities to keep non-diving family members entertained. Weno Island has an intriguing World War II history after its occupation by Imperial Japanese forces, and guided tours can be arranged to explore the armament bases, forts, tunnels and communication centers which remain. You can also rent a scooter to tour the island at your own leisure, or delve into the cultural history of Chuuk at the Ethnographic Exhibition Centre.

The Blue Lagoon Resort has kayaks for rent if you want to explore the beautiful Truk Lagoon and you can snorkel on the reef right in front of the resort. If you want to venture to more remote atolls, both snorkeling and fishing trips can be arranged on request, with two “Coral Reef Sanctuaries” waiting to be explored at Fonomu Island and Jeep Island.
